One Republic have 'All The Right Moves' in new video - watch now

Ryan Tedder and his band One Republic are back with a song that sounds....like every other Ryan Tedder track. That's not a bad thing, of course, as he's penned such masterpieces as 'Apologize' and Leona Lewis' 'Bleeding Love.' We're totally loving the subtle updates on the formula though - the more organic guitar and drum sounds, particularly. The video we could take or leave...it's a bit 90's throwback (Annie Lennox 'No More I Love Yous,' anyone?) but the whole thing ends up a solid 7/10.

The song is out January 11, from One Republic's forthcoming new album

Happy New Year from ScopiSat and Kylie

2009 comes to an end in mere hours, and since we celebrated Christmas with some Kylie it seems only appropriate to do so for the new year as well. Here's Kylie singing 'I Should Be So Lucky' on Jools Holland for New Years a couple years back. Here's to a great 2010!

Billboard's Top 25 of '09 in under 5 minutes

So '09 is drawing to a close, and the next chart will be officially dated "2010," so we now know with absolution what the top 25 tracks of the year were.  And what does one do with such powerful knowledge?  Jam them all into a five-minute megamix, of course.

DJ Earworm is at it again - see if you can name all the songs.

Literally Amazing.

A friendly holiday reminder from Amy Winehouse (photo)

Crack kills, kids.

Paloma Faith wonders if "You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful" - watch the video now

While Amy Winehouse is "otherwise engaged," somebody has to pick up the MOR-retro-throwback banner.  That somebody is Paloma Faith.  Your grandma will love it, your kids won't hate it, and after it's over the world will be exactly the same.

Still, pretty video though.
The single is out now with an album in February, and a U.S. launch sometime in 2010.

Chart Chat UK: December 27, 2009

Something quite interesting happened this week.  The battle for Christmas number one is over, with a result that until a few weeks ago would have been unthinkable.  Rage Against the Machine managed to beat the yearly X-Factor winner's single to the top spot for the crucial Christmas chart, leaving the reality talent show champ languishing in number 2.  But X-Factor winner Joe Mcelderry this week is redeemed, edging up to the pole position and saving himself the embarrassment of being the only X-Factor winner ever to not top the charts.  In the end, everybody wins - the anti-establishment crusaders got their Christmas chart victory, and the X-Factor machine keeps on trucking.
Lady Gaga holds down the fort at 3, while Cheryl Cole racks up her second straight solo top 5 with "3 Words," her brilliant Will.i.am collaboration.
The rest of the chart suffers from the post-holiday blues, with no new material put out until the new year.  In fact, the only new entry that isn't a Christmas tune is Jay-Z featuring Mr. Hudson with "Young Forever" all the way down at 30.

Hope everyone had a safe and fun holiday and a happy new year to you all!

The UK Top Ten:
1 - The Climb: Joe Mcelderry
2 - Killing In The Name: Rage Against The Machine
3 - Bad Romance: Lady Gaga
4 - 3 Words: Cheryl Cole ft Will.i.am
5 - Starstrukk: 3Oh!3 ft Katy Perry
6 - Meet Me Halfway: Black Eyed Peas
7 - Don't Stop Believin': Journey
8 - Russian Roulette: Rihanna
9 - You Know Me: Robbie Williams
10- Tik Tok: Kesha

Shakira becomes a 'Gypsy' - watch the live performance now

So the last single 'Give It Up To Me' isn't really going as planned, so Shakira's gone back to her 'Underneath Your Clothes' reserves.  The album's no Rated R-style flop but the record label's clearly scrambling.  What do you think, readers?  Has 'Gypsy' won you over?

No release date yet for the single, but a video has already been shot.  We'll bring it to you as soon as it's out!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from ScopiSat - A Kylie Xmas Gift

We here at ScopiSat want to wish everyone out there a wonderful holiday.  Because it's so close to Christmas absolutely nothing is happening in the music world.  So here is Kylie wishing everyone a merry Christmas and singing some songs while fake snow falls.

Sia says "You've Changed" in new video - watch now

ScopiSat fave Sia is back with the debut single from her forthcoming album "We Are Born" and it is as delightful as we were hoping.  She's gone in a more soulful-disco direction, and that's just fine by us.  The video is also just as kooky and humorous as we have all come to expect.

Well done.

The album is out in April 2010

Fe-Nix get their "Swagga" on - watch the video now

The tragically named girlgroup from London Fe-Nix (really, girls?) are set to CHANGE THE FACE OF MUSIC (read: not change anything at all in the least) with their single entitled 'Swagga.'  The energetic girls bounce and pose their way through a certainly passable video, and taken as a whole it's actually alright.  It's just in time really, as the Pussycat Dolls are on their way out...but now, by the grace of God in all his wisdom we have a worthy replacement.  Bring on the mediocrity.

Amen.

"Swagga" is out in 2010

RIP Brittany Murphy

Brittany Murphy was one of the most underrated actresses of her generation, in ScopiSat's opinion.  She was also a crazy good singer - she churned out the LITERALLY AMAZING "Faster Kill Pussycat" with Paul Oakenfold a few years back.  She was working on a solo album, and here's hoping some of it surfaces.  Sad news :(

Vita Chambers has the 'Young Money' - watch the video now

It's a bit Gaga, a bit shouty 'I Love Rock and Roll' and a lot good.   Barbadian up-and-comer Vita Chambers lands a very effective first punch with this debut track.

Amazing.

Lady Gaga sings "Speechless" for the Queen, suspended in the air - watch now

Lady Gaga's march toward absolute supremacy continues, as she performs at the Royal Variety concert for the United Kingdom's aristocracy.  The annual concert is a showcase of the "best of the year," all mashed into a couple hours.

Lady Gaga's performance is classily understated, but the set and outfit are reassuringly over the top.  You can almost see the wheels turning in Gaga's head, thinking that in a few years when the Queen is her servant and the Haus of Gaga with a sequined fist, every Friday will be "wacky outfit Friday" and teacups will be worshiped as gods.

Leona Lewis says 'I See You' in new video - watch now, with clips from Avatar!

We here at ScopiSat really don't care as much as we should about Avatar.  Apparently it is THE MOST AMAZING THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED but something about the trailers leaves us cold.   Ah well, at least we have the soundtrack to keep us warm.  See exhibit A, the Leona Lewis theme a la 'My Heart Will Go On' but with a video that features people that are blue because they are aliens, not because they are suffering hypothermia in northern Atlantic waters.

Who wants to watch the new Rihanna video? Yeah, go on then...

The more this all goes on we have been getting the distinct feeling that 'Rated R' is going to be a bit Kelly Clarkson 'My December'.  Big artistic leap blah blah no sales blah blah giant pop comeback hurrah.  In the meantime here's a preview of Rihanna's upcoming video for next single 'Hard.'

There's that then.  Now excuse us while we put on some 'SOS' remixes and relive the old days.

Swedish act Name The Pet do 'American Boys' - watch the video now

This is Popjustice's Song of the Day.  There is a reason.

In a SHOCKING TWIST, Name The Pet is actually a woman.  And she is amazing.

Alexandra Burke dances around in 'Broken Heels' in new video - watch now!

...because the British love American Football...

We're still a little divided on the song, so we'll leave it up to you readers to decide whether it's brilliant or shit.  It seems like it has all the elements of an AMAZING POP MASTERPIECE but something about it just doesn't sit quite right.  It's the perfect punch, it just never lands.

Out January 11 in the UK, by which time maybe we'll have come around.

Hot Chip have a 'One Life Stand' in new video - watch now!

Banned of St. Trinians go Up And Away - watch the video now

The first St. Trinians film (for all you in the U.S. think Harry Potter with all girls, pop music and no magic...in essence it's a grown up 'Madeline') was such a RAGING CRITICAL SUCCESS that there is now another one, and thankfully Xenomania is back on board with some banging tunes.  This song is called 'Up And Away' and is easily better than anything Mariah Carey has put out since 'Honey.'  The song also comes with a video, but it's really best we don't focus on that...

Amazing?  Amazing.

Janet Jackson pretends to sing on the X Factor - watch the performance now

That was nice wasn't it.

Alicia Keys' solo 'Empire State Of Mind' is better than the original - watch now!

So Alicia's new album will be out soon, and it will feature a brilliant take on Jay-Z's 'Empire State of Mind' which Ms. Keys guests on now.  So what do you think, readers?  Improvement?  Or just a nice diversion?

The album is out Dec 15

Lady Gaga has a Bad Romance all over the X Factor - watch the live performance now!

Here's guessing Lady Gaga will one-up all this years' other performers on the UK's X Factor... lets see shall we:

And that's that then.

Chart Chat UK: Dec 6, 2009

It's going to be a short one today, as law school finals beckon.  Luckily absolutely nothing happened this week on the charts.  Peter Kay repeats at number 1 with the Children in Need single, while Rihanna's 'Russian Roulette' leaps up to 2 on the back of her X Factor performance.  Lady Gaga is nipping at her heels, as 'Bad Romance' hops up 2 places to 3.  With a stunning performance on last night's X Factor, my money is on this track being next week's number one.  Alicia Keys also benefits from the X Factor performance bump, with her new single bowing at number 8, one spot above Timbaland and Nelly Furtado's 'Morning After Dark' debut.  From there on down nothing much happens, but lets all spare a thought for Lily Allen who crashes in at 39 with 'Who'd Have Known,' after its full release.  It's an abysmal placing for sure, but it's also the fourth single from her current album so no one will be losing too much sleep.

The UK Top Ten:
1 - The Official Children In Need Medley: Peter Kay
2 - Russian Roulette: Rihanna
3 - Bad Romance: Lady Gaga
4 - Meet Me Halfway: Black Eyed Peas
5 - You Are Not Alone: X Factor Finalists
6 - Watcha Say: Jason Derulo
7 - Tik Tok: Kesha
8 - Doesn't Mean Anything: Alicia Keys
9 - Morning After Dark: Timbaland ft Nelly Furtado
10- Fight For This Love: Cheryl Cole

Sign of the Apocalypse #10: Aqua's 'Spin Me Your Christmas' gets a video

Sometimes words fail and we here at ScopiSat have to just sit back and let a work of true artistry speak for itself.  So here, without any introduction or fanfare, is video for the soon-to-be-perennial-classic Aqua Christmas single.

Girls Can't Catch hear their 'Echo' in new video - watch the full clip now

Last time we saw the Girls Can't Catch crew, they were hanging out in a garbage dump playing croquet.  As you do.  Apparently the girls are pretty crafty, as they've somehow assembled all the trash around them into a digital projection screen, picked some rather fashionable frocks out of the dump, and perched themselves atop the White Cliffs of Dover after popping into John Lewis to have a makeup consult.  As for the song, it's pretty good, albeit in a second-rate Saturdays kind of way.  It's difficult to pinpoint why exactly it comes off that way, but something about the production and vocal delivery brings it down from AMAZING to just very very good.

Check out the video here - apologies, as you may have to suffer through an ad for a GPS system you obviously DESPERATELY NEED.

Out Jan 18, 2010 (how did it suddenly become almost 2010?  Is this a shock to anyone else but us??) on Fascination, ahead of a full album sometime in the spring.

Kylie set to release 'Live in New York' album; New Speakerphone mix with live video - listen now!

ScopiSat was one of the lucky few who saw Kylie at her Hammerstein Ballroom show here in New York City, and we can tell you it was LITERALLY AMAZING.  Luckily for everyone who didn't catch it, Miss M is releasing the creatively titled 'Live In New York,' an album of the entire NYC show.  To celebrate/cross-promote, Kylie's put up a brand new studio mix of the tour version of 'Speakerphone' which is very very good.  Some superfan has taken an impressive array of clips from the For You, For Me tour and synced them to the studio mix.  It is very good.

'Live in New York' is out Dec. 14 for download in the US, UK and Worldwide, and will apparently include three studio mixes:  Speakerphone, Come Into My World, and Light Years.  Amazing.

Toni Braxton and Trey Songz are so 'Yesterday' in new video - watch now!

Toni Braxton is on what seems like her eighth comeback, but she never wears out her welcome.  This go-round we are treated to a midtempo ballad all about 'heartbreak' and that sort of thing, and an accompanying video that was apparently filmed in an Anthropologie retail location.  The video also features a shirtless Trey Songz, and some blond skank in the beginning that looks like Brooke Hogan if she got her face redone.   Oh wait, it's actually Brooke Hogan for some reason.

'Yesterday' is out now on Atlantic

Nick Jonas goes solo on 'Who I Am' - listen to his new track now

One of the Jonas Brothers (frankly we're not exactly sure which one) has decided to do something other than dance around on stage with two other adolescent boys while girls scream.  That 'something' is dancing around on stage by himself while girls scream.  Here is Nick Jonas and The Administration's debut single, 'Who I Am.'  It starts out a little Ben Harper and ends a little....not.

Who wants a Lady Gaga's Christmas song for free? (free download)

So Lady Gaga has become the de facto global empress of everything as of late, and far be it from her to leave Jesus to continue his stranglehold on something as delightful and pure as Christmas.  To celebrate our new holiday overlord, here is her 'Christmas Tree,' as a free download.  Because us minions love free stuff, don't we?

Marina and the Diamonds go to 'Hollywood' - watch the video now!

The Marina and the Diamonds train rolls steadily on towards an ACTUAL ALBUM RELEASE, as evinced by this rather stellar major-label single.  It is called 'Hollywood' and has a very Hollywood-esque video to go along with it, including lots of American flags and young cornfed jocks.  It also includes the phrase 'I'm obsessed with the mess that's America.'

'Hollywood' is out in early February, with Marina's first album arriving February 22.  Buy both please.  Thanks.
