Estelle is a 'Freak' with David Guetta - listen to the brand new single now!

Make no mistake, kids, this is a world away from 'American Boy.'  But never fear - it is also pretty damn good.  After 'Boy''s huge success Estelle never quite caught on, with her other singles flailing around in the UK Top 40's lower reaches.  The album did ok, but clearly she had to come back with something big or risk living out her days in Blu Cantrell country.  Well, mission accomplished.  'Freak' is all samples and beats and epic drunken dancing at the gay bar, and heavily features the hook from that song from the 80's or 90's that everyone knows but doesn't remember the name of.  In other words it's quite acceptable and we here at ScopiSat can't wait for the video.

"Well done."

The video premiere has been pushed back a week, apparently, but should surface sometime in the beginning of March.  The single is out in a couple weeks.

Shakira is a 'Gypsy' - watch the video premiere now

Shakira is hot.  Shakira is talented.  Shakira has a new video that serves as a fine example of both her hotness and talent.  This is that video.

Frightened Rabbit do 'The Twist' - listen to the ScopiSat fave now

Sometimes a song isn't particularly fresh or current or controversial or by Kylie but is still EPIC and LITERALLY AMAZING.  This is one of those songs.  It has been on ScopiSat's iTunes repeat for the last two days and shows now signs of slowing down.  'The Twist' is a song by a Scottish band named Frightened Rabbit, and both are very very good pop things, despite the horror we imagine they would feel at being labeled as such.

'The Twist' is a Guillemots-meets-Vampire Weekend dorm room soundtrack kind of makes us wish we still had an RA, a bunk bed and a hidden stash of alcoholic cider the homeless guy bought us in exchange for a McRib sandwich and bus fare.

All their stuff is pretty damn ok, so buy it now on Fat Cat Records.

Ke$ha confronts the 'Blah Blah Blah' in new video

We have just watched a new video by Ke$ha.  If you don't know, Ke$ha is a singer (sort of) who dresses like a homeless person and is here to SAVE POP MUSIC by using text-speak and putting symbols where letters should be.

The new video, for her upcoming single 'Blah Blah Blah' is banging around the internet but we can't get it to embed because an intern in the IT department of Ke$ha's label did something horribly, horribly wrong.  Anyhow, it's nothing to write home about so if you were considering hunting it down in the wilds of the interwebs we will save you the trouble:

In the video a greasy young woman duct tapes a very attractive man's mouth shut and then watches a someone with guyliner and a fashion mullet play the guitar.  There are some lazily choreographed 'dance moves' and some hand movements and all the while there is music.

Then the rap bit comes in and we all lose interest and then it ends.

There.  That's three minutes of your life we have saved you.  Unless you are a very slow reader (I'm looking at you, American public school system) in which case we have only saved you two.

If you still want to watch it, here it is finally:

***Worldwide viewers can still watch at the link below

EDIT:  Also Ke$ha is bad at bowling

EDIT 2:  The video is only out in the UK and has been blocked elsewhere, so if you're in Great Britain or can fool your computer into thinking you are, you may watch the video HERE

Miley Cyrus shows us what she sees 'When I Look At You' - watch the new video now!

About two years ago we fell in love with Miley completely by accident and against our better instincts.  It was in a cab on the way back from Newark airport, and a song came on the radio.  It was a infectious, insistent, and even brilliant.  'This song is going to save pop in America,' we thought.  And then it was a Miley Cyrus song and we died a little inside.

Anyway, the still-not-legal pole dancer has a new video out but don't get excited - this is a world away from 'Party In The USA.'  It's from Ms. Cyrus' new movie 'The Last Song' which comes out at the end of March and looks exactly like something Mandy Moore would have been in if she wasn't so busy doing......nothing.   As for the song, it's a broody ballad all about BOYS and how much it hurts to love BOYS and has a guitar and a piano in it so you know it means business.

PS the song we heard was 'See You Again.'  And it is still amazing.

Also we miss Mandy Moore :(

A brilliant pop tune for people who don't like pop tunes - watch the video for Diamond Rings' 'All Yr Songs' now!

Somewhere in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, a bunch of hipsters are bong-repping salvia and feeling superior to everyone else.  They're also probably listening to this young Canadian by the name of John O'Regan.  The name of his band (which is really a side project for his main band D'Urbervilles) is actually Diamond Rings, but hipsters like to call him by his real name as if they run a home brewery with him in their bedroom or something.

In any case, they think he is AMAZING but are incapable of saying so because they are HIPSTERS and instead will probably write a poem about buying used clothing and not show it to anyone.

Good job hipsters.  You got this one right.

Mariah ruins our Olympic experience with '100%' - watch now!

Remember when Mariah Carey did 'Someday' and 'Honey'?  Yeah this isn't like those.

Mrs. Cannon, in her unending musical wisdom, has decided that this year's Winter Olympics doesn't have enough hand flailing and breathy over-emoting, and - always the giver - has gone ahead and filled that gaping void.  '100%' is her contribution to the Team America soundtrack that NBC has been pimping every ad break for the last week, but we can't be too negative about it as the proceeds go to fund young athletes.

'100%' is out now but just turn your local NBC affiliate at any given time.  You'll hear it.

A not unattractive man sings a not terrible song - watch Alex Gardner's 'I'm Not Mad' now!

Alex Gardner is the new boy-wonder Xenomania project, and he is both easy on the eyes and talented.  He has a new video out but because record companies are crap they have blocked the video from the US.  So here is a live version.

"Very good."

A Friday Flashback - Madison Avenue for no reason whatsoever

ScopiSat reader Dionne wants more 90's music.  To be honest, if there's one thing the 20-teens could use it's a little more 90's music, so we're more than happy to oblige.  So here's Madison Avenue.

Maybe if we get bored we'll start one of those '1,000,000 strong to get Madison Avenue to quit their job manning the tills at Tesco and return to music relevance' Facebook groups.

But probably not.

Justin Timberlake is back in a big way in the new Timbaland collaboration video 'Carry Out' - watch now

Oh Justin, how we missed you.  We can't even remember the last actual clip he put out (that wasn't him dancing to 'Single Ladies' or featured him in a dodgy mustache) and we kind of forgot how good he is.

Apparently Timbaland is in this video too but no one really cares.

Cascada get off on 'Pyromania' - watch the video now!

Cascada, the euro-dance power group, went all Gaga/RedOne with its current album, and actually found some surprising success with single 'Evacuate The Dancefloor.'  It became a worldwide smash, topping the UK charts, and inexplicably (blame the gays) gave the German group a number 25 hit in the US.  Looking to keep that momentum going, the group has chucked out sound-alike 'Pyromania,'  which isn't nearly as 'shout it from the rooftops' anthem-y as 'Evacuate,' and for that reason seems unlikely to match that song's dizzy heights.  Still, it's not completely unpleasant.

As for the video, it has special effects, men in big bubbly space helmets, and a woman with absolutely horrifying two-tone hair.  So par for the course for Cascada.

Out in the UK in April, and in the US over the summer (maybe)

Watch Sue Sylvester don a Madonna cone bra in the preview for upcoming all-Madge 'Glee!'

How excited are we about the impending return of 'Glee?'  The answer is very.  Add Madonna into the mix and we're absolutely foaming at the mouth.  Here's a little preview, courtesy of Entertainment Tonight:

***warning to British viewers, the clip contains spoilers from the first series

"Exciting."

Lady Gaga, last night's big Brits winner, performs a stripped down 'Telephone' and a euro-crazy 'Dance in the Dark' - watch now!!

Last night's Brit Awards were very kind to Lady Gaga.  She won three gongs, performed two songs, and brought her tea up on stage with her while she teared up, overwhelmed by Brit love.  Also she wore something insane.

But it's her performances that everyone is talking about today.  Her emotional version of 'Telephone,' repurposed as a tribute to Alexander McQueen, really stole the night, as did her crazy/brilliant/completely bizarre presentation of 'Dance in the Dark.'

The Brits are goo goo for Gaga.

STOP EVERYTHING: Lady Gaga has just arrived at the Brit Awards wearing THIS

"Amazing."

Black Eyed Peas steal 10 minutes of your life with the 'Imma Be/Rock That Body' video - watch now

The Oscars are just around the corner, and the Black Eyed Peas will not be getting one.  Nor will they ever, judging by the first couple minutes of this video.  Fergie already launched her 'acting' career, first appearing in absolute mess 'Poseidon,' where she essentially walked around looking like she accidentally wandered from a BEP shoot onto the movie set, and recently appearing in 'Nine.'
The other member, god bless em, try their darndest to convincingly play....themselves... and lets just say it's not super good.  Ah well, at least the CGI is there to save the whole thing.

The song is out now, but you already knew that because like every other BEP song it is bent on world domination and SHALL NOT BE STOPPED

Robbie Williams moons us with his 'Morning Sun' - watch the video now!

Robbie Williams has had a rocky comeback, albeit an ultimately pretty successful one.  His big X-Factor appearance turned into an awkward mess, but was redeemed with a triumphant X-Factor performance a few weeks later.  A so-so lead single was followed up by a pretty great track that ended up an even bigger hit.

For his next move, Robbie is giving us this year's official single for Sport Relief.  It's a by-the-numbers Williams ballad, but from the man who set the gold standard for male power pop that's nothing to sniff at.

The video is a space-y affair with a retro cool twist, and we don't know about you viewers, but we're kinda digging it.

Out March 15

It's Scopitone Valentine's Day! - watch Joi Lansing's holiday Scopitone!

Scopitone Saturday started out posting, well, a Scopitone every Saturday.  We stopped that when we got bored of it, but fear not, campy kitsch fans, we'll still throw one up every so often.  Today, for instance.  In honor of Valentine's Day, here is a delightfully sexy number from ScopiSat fave Joi Lansing and a host of closeted homosexual dancers.  It was the 60's after all.

For all of you trapped in your own web of love, or those still looking for your spider (ew), Happy Valentine's Day from Scopisat.

Livvi Franc goes 'Automatik' - watch the video from the Gaga/Rihanna hybrid now!

The best way we can describe Livvi Franc is that she is the music of Gaga mixed with the best parts of Rihanna swallowed by a pop monster and vomited back up as a drag queen.  Needless to say, it is VERY VERY GOOD.

This particular song is produced by RedOne, the mastermind behind Lady Gaga's (and now everyone else's) sound, but he changes the formula up just enough to keep things interesting.  What do you think, readers?  Chat topper or bargain-bin flopper?

Out internationally now, coming soon to the US.

Leona Lewis' TERRIFYING makeup says 'I Got You' in new video - watch now

In honor of Valentine's Day, here is a Leona Lewis song.  Like other Leona Lewis songs, it has a soft verse and then a BIG CHORUS.  Like other Leona Lewis songs it is about LOVE.  Like other Leona Lewis songs, the video for it is DRAMATIC.

"Expected."

Cyndi Lauper goes Gaga for MAC - watch the video now!

Cyndi Lauper and Lady Gaga - two wacky artists that we never expected to get together, but somehow seem to be a completely natural pairing - have joined forces with MAC cosmetics to combat the AIDS epidemic.  Together they hope to raise awareness of rising HIV infection rates in young women (Gaga's age group) and middle aged women (Lauper's).  They've been making the rounds the last few days, giving some delightfully campy quotes and, in Lauper's case, some ridiculously ugly wigs.

Rihanna shows us her 'Rude Boy' - watch the video now!

Here's Rihanna with another not-as-good-as-her-last-twenty-songs song.  The video, on the other hand, we are totally loving.  We're trying to find a song to play while we have the video playing on mute.  We're thinking something by Girls Aloud.

David Guetta and Kid Cudi have some 'Memories' in new video - watch now!

David Guetta, DJ extraordinaire, and almost-superstar Kid Cudi have put out a song.

It is called 'Memories,' and even though it's not really memorable it's an okay way to pass a few minutes.

Carrie Underwood on Sesame Street as Carrie Underworm - watch the video!

Bless.  Even "that note" at the Superbowl is forgiven.

Amy Macdonald asks "Don't Tell Me That It's Over" - watch the video now!

ScopiSat has been a little electro-disco heavy lately, and almost as if on cue, along comes Amy Macdonald with her new guitar-driven, better-than-Coldplay-because-it-sounds-a-bit-like-Coldplay-without having-anything-to-do-with-Chris Martin jam.

It's very good and has a quite passable video to go with it.  The whole thing is very "credible," though you'd never know it to look at the clip.

All gloss and HD sky shots, this is a pop video if we've ever seen one.

If you love it as much as we do, buy the album "A Curious Thing" on March 8

Who wants to hear Carrie Underwood hit a REALLY dodgy note? (video)

As Carrie Underwood's National Anthem (when we write it like that, it looks like it's the national anthem of a nation called Carrie Underwood, which, incidentally, we would totally live in) progresses, you can tell she's pleased she's TOTALLY killing it.
She knows this is going well.  "Why not let myself go a little," she thinks.  "Just ignore the monitors and SING."  So she does.
And then, just when all seems safe, on the note that we will all remember her for, she pulls a Taylor Swift and everything goes to hell.

Bless.  To be fair, it takes a brave woman to wear a white suit on television.

EDIT:  In preparation for this post, we spent a good ten minutes trying to find a photo of Carrie Underwood looking awful.  It is IMPOSSIBLE.  It does not exist.

Bitch.

The New Pixie Lott video is...interesting - watch now!

If this week's Ugly Betty taught us anything, it's that blogs are for ranting.  Because we live our lives by the Word Of Betty, we at ScopiSat have this to say:  Pixie Lott is a load of damp shit.  She started out her big-time career with 'Mama Do,' an Amy Winehouse wannabe, followed it up with some other forgettable song, and now is chucking out this masterpiece of mediocrity.  Yet somehow she is a HUGE STAR, selling bucketloads of albums and singles, and basically ruining any remaining faith we had in the record buying public.  We're not fans.  She's crap.  We're sure she's a lovely person but whoever her A&R person is should be dragged through the streets to Robbie Williams' house and then forced to watch him relive his drug addled X-Factor performance OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN until they expire from the ABSOLUTE CRINGEY-NESS of the whole thing and then have their body dragged through the streets AGAIN as an example of what happens to 'those kind of people.'  Anyhow, here's Pixie's new video.  Enjoy.

Sabrina Washington says 'OMG' in her new video - watch now!

The other day we posted the new Sabrina Washington track 'OMG,' along with a sort - of review.

Well now we are treated to a series of moving images carefully choreographed to match the rhythm and subject matter of the song.  The kids are calling it a 'music video.'

The clip is a bit 'Gaga-lite' with some Ke$ha thrown in, but it looks glossy and definitely does the trick.  What do you guys think?

The single is out March 22, with an album this summer

New Young Pony Club give us some 'Chaos' in new video - watch now

New Young Pony Club, whose 'Ice Cream' was inescapable in both computer and car commercials for the last couple years, are back with a new single and video.

It's a by-the-numbers post-indie affair, but it does the trick, and is just the thing to blast out of your vintage Walkman as you walk down the street in Williamsburg if you're trying to 'fit in.'

We're guessing this won't beat the UK peak of 'Ice Cream,' which at number 40 was their biggest hit.  But on March 1st we can find out...

Sabrina Washington says 'OMG' and it is quite above average - listen now (full track)

Once a part of trio Mis-teeq, along with Alesha Dixon, Sabrina Washington is finally ready to strike out on her own.  The group broke up back in 05, and since then there have been various rumblings about Ms. Washington's solo career.

Like now-successful-solo-artist-bandmate Alesha, Sabrina was on a reality show - 'I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here' - and her label decided it was time to unleash 'OMG' on the world.   It's a pretty unoffensive R&B tune, and sounds more like what Mis-teeq would be doing today than anything Alesha has done.

Out March 22nd in the UK on Cash Money Records

HOLD EVERYTHING - VV Brown's 'Shark In The Water' is FREE on iTunes this week

If you live in the US, go to iTunes and get the BRILLIANT 'Shark In The Water' from ScopiSat fave VV Brown.

NOW.

Thanks.

Amazing.

It's the Jedward video - watch now

They almost drove Simon to tears on X-Factor, as maybe the first actually quite bad act to make it through to the latter end of the show.  They created what is known as the 'Jedward Paradox.'  (no really, it's on Wikipedia so it must be real)  Apparently, everyone loves to hate them, but they have a healthy slew of straight up lovers as well, including the Prime Minister of Ireland, Leona Lewis, and Calvin Harris.

By the time they were booted off the show, there were debates all over the UK, supporters and condemners, and the assurance that they'd be back, somehow, in some form.  Their sheer willpower and eagerness won them a legion of fans, and also, apparently, a record deal.

Now witness:  Jedward, the twins who nearly brought down a tv/music empire, with 'Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby).'

On a side note, Vanilla is looking pretty good no?

Diana Vickers has done a very very good pop song - listen to the debut of 'Once' now

Diana Vickers, the former X-Factor contestant, is gearing up to be one of the better successes from the show, if her debut single is any indication.  It's a pretty brilliant track that manages to be a little bit 80's, a little bit futuristic, a little bit now, and a lot amazing.

There are only a few albums we here at ScopiSat sit on the edge of our seat for, but Miss Vickers' just clawed her way into the fray.

The single is out April 19th in the UK, and will hopefully see the light of day in the US

In case you missed it, the brilliant Gaga/Elton collaboration on last night's Grammy's - watch now
