Snoop Dogg gets some 'Gangsta Luv' - watch the video now

If you're not in the Dogg Pound, you might not be aware that Snoop is back and better than ever. Don't worry, we just found out today. Comeback track 'Gangsta Luv' is a by-the-numbers rap tune with a nice hook and a bit of a throwback vibe. The video is pretty entertaining, and while not groundbreaking, at least it keeps the greenscreen operators in business.

Snoop Dogg on MUZU.

What do you all think, dear readers? Will you be buying what the Dogg is selling?

Britney finally shows us her '3' - watch the entire video now

Britney's US chart-topper (and, one would imagine, soon to be international smash) '3' finally gets a video and anyone hoping for a Spears sex-fest will be sorely disappointed. But if you're a fan of hooker-pole dancing and quick edits that manage to not show Brit doing more than one move at a time, you'll be quite pleased.

Still a good jam, and at this point the video is just window dressing. So we're totally on board with the vid.

Out now in the US and out Nov 9 in the UK

Janet Jackson has a new song out and we totally didn't notice - listen now

Ok so this is actually already out on iTunes in the US, so we totally missed the America boat. Considering it's now a month on from its release, so did everyone else. However, JJ is gearing up to chuck it out in the UK next month, so lets give it another listen shall we?

Well that was about 1/3 of a great song and a whole lot of filler.

Out now in the US, Out Nov 23 on Polydor in the UK

A first look at Britney's '3' video - watch it now (it doesn't take very long)

Us: Well that was satisfying, wasn't it?

You: No.

:(

Nora Jones goes 'Chasing Pirates' - watch the video now

She once said that maybe someday she would 'rock out.'  This might be the closest we get.  That's not to say it's anywhere near either 'rock' or 'out' but for Norah the guitar bit and harder edge are a bit of a new direction.

In any case it's another nice, flowy mid-tempo track from Miss Jones, and will sound perfect with your pumpkin spice lattes all autumn.

Out now on iTunes

Chris Brown thinks he can 'Transform Ya' - watch the video now and decide if he's right (video)

Of course the question we're all asking is 'but can he transform himself.'  But this isn't about his personal issues.  It's about the music.  The tuneless, boring, done-to-death music.  The video is all EXCITEMENT and DANCING and really doesn't match the absolute banality of the track, but whoever did the CGI certainly earned their pay.  Visually very nice.

Out now on Jive/Zomba

Can we just talk about the Adam Lambert album cover? (pic)

It's really as if a focus group met in a room, took some Ecstacy, threw on the Xanadu soundtrack and WENT TO TOWN.

Flawless skin though.

Westlife take a crap Daughtry song and make it worse (video)

It will clearly be number 1 this week.  Little girls will lock themselves in their rooms with it blasting for months.  MOR DJ's will play it for years.  And it will be terrible forever.

On the upside, the gay one looks rather nice during the middle eight bit.

Out now on RCA.

Mini Viva's 'I Wish' debut (radio rip)

So 'I Left My Heart In Tokyo' turned out to be a rather surprising smash for Mini Viva, and the girls hope to keep the momentum going with new Xenomania single 'I Wish.'  For a few weeks now it's been hyped up on 'the blogs' and amongst people 'in the know' as somewhat of a masterpiece along the lines of Girls Aloud's 'Call The Shots.'  Now we're not saying it's terrible by any means, but do any of you readers hear anything NEARLY as brilliant as CTS in this?  We didn't think so :(

It's no 'Call The Shots' or even a 'Can't Speak French' but 'I Wish' is still quite a bit above average.  Give it a 7/10.

Chart Chat UK: Oct 25, 2009

The UK Top Five is quite diva-heavy this week, as we see a reality show contestant one-two punch at the top.  Alexandra Burke, the X-Factor winner, slides down to number two with her Flo Rida collaboration 'Bad Boys,' giving up the top slot to Popstars: The Rivals winner/X-Factor judge Cheryl Cole.  Cole's debut single, despite being rather divisive, was always going to make a big splash, and splash it does, with 290,000 copies sold - over 130,000 of those on its first day of release.  Thus it becomes the fastest selling single of 2009, and handily thrusts Cole into the 'Top Stars' bracket.  At 4 we have Robbie Williams, whose comeback has been described by the media as both an epic failure and a spectacular win.  In reality it's probably somewhere in the middle, but it must be encouraging to all involved that 'Bodies' didn't fall off the face of the earth after its debut last week.  The number 5 spot brings us to another artist whose comeback has been a bit questionable.  Whitney Houston, once one of the most bankable singers (and actresses) in the business, has fallen on some difficult times in recent years.  You might have heard about it.  If not, here's the short version:  Whitney married Bobby Brown, did some crack, stopped eating, divorced Bobby Brown, and may or may not have quit doing drugs.  In any case, her first official comeback single, 'Million Dollar Bill' hardly set the charts on fire out of the gate.  But a few weeks on and an AMAZING and shambolic X-Factor performance later, the song vaults up 9 spots to grab Whit's first UK top 5 since 2000.  The rest of the top 10 is pretty uneventful, with some minor shuffles of weeks-old tracks, save for the number 10 entry from Young Soul Rebels.  The not-unpleasant 'I Got Soul' isn't anything to write home about, but it's better than another Black Eyed Peas track isn't it.  The Saturdays continue their swift descent, down 6 to 14, just below Shakira who drops 5 down to 12.  17 and 20 see new entries this week, with Cobra Starship's 'Good Girls Go Bad' and Alphabeat's 'The Spell,' impacting the chart.  This is likely as far as both tracks will go, as each were fully released this week.  For Cobra Starship this is a great result, while Alphabeat has to be a bit disappointed with such a lowly position for their 2nd album's lead-off single.  Christina Aguilera's 'Hurt' enjoys another run at the top 40, re-entering at 25, thanks to its performance on X-Factor, and at 36 we find Lostprophets, whose 'It's Not The End of the World...' faceplants down a full 20 places.

The UK Top Ten:
1 - Cheryl Cole: Fight For This Love
2 - Alexandra Burke: Bad Boys
3 - Chipmunk: Oopsy Daisy
4 - Robbie Williams: Bodies
5 - Whitney Houston: Million Dollar Bill
6 - Taio Cruz: Break Your Heart
7 - Black Eyed Peas: I Gotta Feeling
8 - Jay-Z: Empire State Of Mind
9 - Michael Buble: Haven't Met You Yet
10- Young Soul Rebels: I Got Soul

Listen to Toni Braxton's new track 'Woman' (video)

So the Toni Braxton comeback train continues to sputter up the mountain muttering 'I think I can, I think I can.'  We personally hope that it can and in fact DOES, because we're totally digging Toni's new track, called 'Woman.'  It's what the kids are calling a 'slow jam' but we choose to imagine the single package containing some balls-out club mixes and promotion including a live performance with a wig and dancers and a retrospective video intro with clips from 'Breathe Again' and 'He Wasn't Man Enough.'

We all can dream can't we :(

Toni's new album 'Pulse' will be out in February, and here's hoping it all goes to plan for her - the famously bankrupt warbler could certainly use a break

Lets all listen to the new Leona Lewis album sampler (clips)

So everyone is expecting the Leona Lewis album to be quite good.  The only question seems to be where on the 'amazing scale' the project will end up.  As we've already discussed in a post that we're too busy to find and link to, the cover photo starts things off in fine fashion.  Lead single 'Happy' kept the momentum, and now we can sample all the tracks and begin to compose what people have started calling an 'informed opinion.'

'Echo' is out Nov 16/17 depending on your country's release date, on Syco/J Records/Sony

It's Scopitone Saturday!!

This week's Scopitone is very good for several reasons.  Reasons like:  in it people go bowling, and in it people go bowling in smoking jackets.

Yes.  Very good indeed.

Menya want to give you an album for free (free download link)

Here are some reasons we love Menya:
1.  They are from New York City
2.  They make music
3.  The music they make is very very good
4.  They are all quite attractive
5.  We want to marry Good Goose a little bit
6.  They are giving away their new album for FREE if you go HERE

There are quite a few other reasons but we'd rather listen to the album than list them out for you because we are selfish.

In case you've forgotten how LITERALLY AMAZING this band is:

Alesha Dixon's got 'The Light' in new song from Alesha Show - The Encore...listen now!

We don't know about you, dear readers, but we're getting quite excited about this Alesha Dixon re-boot coming in November.  The Gary Barlow ballad is obviously stellar, and now this Xenomania collaboration is adding more fuel to the fire.  We get the whole 'lets show off her voice with power-pop to give her credibility' thing and we're totally on board with that.  Just make sure we get some 'Boy Does Nothing' corkers, alright Alesha?

The Alesha Show - The Encore, with new songs, will be released Nov 23.  It makes a perfect stocking stuffer.  Just sayin'.

Adam Lambert's 'Time For Miracles' video - watch now

Ok so contest show winners never release a phenomenal debut single unless they're named Leona Lewis, but really, Glambert?  Really?  It's all power-ballad-for-middle-America and as such is pretty crap.  Having said that, we love the video of things blowing up.  We're working on how to digitally remove Lambert from the footage and just have a nice little disaster clip but his odd orange color makes it difficult.  So we'll just have to wait and watch '2012' when it comes out.

American Idol runner-up Adam's debut album is out Nov. 23 on RCA, and had better include some stompers.

Marina and the Diamonds go down 'Mowgli's Road' in new video - watch now

Scopisat fave Marina and the Diamonds has a new video out, and it will do virtually nothing to quash the 'she's a rather strange girl' rumblings among the pop community.  Luckily it is also very good.  It's not our choice of single, but these things rarely go our way do they...

Bonus points for the middle eight, giving the whole project a very passable 8/10. The band's major label debut single is out Nov 16 on 679 Records in the UK.

Listen to the new Rihanna single NOW NOW NOW

Unfortunately they don't let people like us have advance copies of 'highly anticipated' tracks such as this, so you'll have to go here to listen.  Lets discuss:

It is amazing but we were hoping for something a bit more 'SOS.'

The end.

Sign of the Apocalypse #8

:(

Lily Allen's new video is Elton obsessed - watch now

We're not sold on the song - it's not bad, just not spectacular - but the video is at least inventive and a little sassy.

Everyone that cares already got the album though.  Top 30 also-ran ahoy.

Musings re: Whitney's crack-tastic X-Factor performance (video)

Some choice moments from tonight's shambolic but somehow still absolutely immense performance of 'Million Dollar Bill':

1.  Whit's obvious lack of Spanx.  You're on live television.  Wear a girdle.
2.  Whit's absolute refusal to sing any notes outside a one-octave range.
3.  The 'crack-ho on the dance-flo' moves during the chorus
4.  Whit's finally noticing that her bra has LITERALLY SNAPPED OPEN at 3:10
5.  The fact that anyone allowed Whit to speak at the end
6.  Whit not actually knowing when her album comes out
7.  Whit's 'Ima cut you, Simon' moment at 6:00
8.  Whit basically calling the contestants utter and complete shit

Ten out of ten, babe.  Ten out of ten.

Chart Chat UK: Oct 18, 2009

Oh how the mighty have fallen.  Robbie Williams' BIG COMEBACK TUNE, as well as being a bit shit, clocks up not-so-big numbers and has to settle for the number 2 spot this week.  In the end it's not  much of a surprise, though, because anytime you're up against a reality competition show winner you're probably going to lose.  That's right, last year's X-Factor champ Alexandra Burke easily claims the number 1 position with her new single 'Bad Boys.'  That pushes last week's chart topper Chipmunk down to 3 with 'Oopsy Daisy,' as Taio Cruz and Jay-Z round out the top 5.  The only other entry in the top 10 is a somewhat surprising placing for Michael Bublé, whose 'Haven't Met You Yet' slides in at 9 and becomes his first top ten in this country.  At 14 we have Whitney Houston sliding back after 'Million Dollar Bill' debuted at 12 last week.  Don't fret though, Whitney fans, as tonight's X-Factor performance is sure to catapult the track into the upper reaches of the chart.  Everything else on the chart is a bit boring to be honest, with top 20 debuts for Lostprophets and Mr. Hudson, an underwhelming Editors track at 23, and in what is fast becoming our least favorite thing to say, ANOTHER Black Eyed Peas song debuts, down at 26.

The UK Top Ten:
1 - Alexandra Burke: Bad Boys
2 - Robbie Williams: Bodies
3 - Chipmunk: Oopsy Daisy
4 - Taio Cruz: Break Your Heart
5 - Jay-Z ft Alicia Keys: Empire State of Mind
6 - Black Eyed Peas: I Gotta Feeling
7 - Shakira: She Wolf
8 - The Saturdays: Forever Is Over
9 - Michael Bublé: Haven't Met You Yet
10- David Guetta ft Akon: Sexy Chick

Leona Lewis isn't "Happy" in her new video

When she's not getting punched in the face, Leona Lewis is busy making music videos like this one.  In it she meets a man and then loves a man and then loses a man and all she wants is to be HAPPY.

Out now in the US on J Records, and out Nov 9 in the UK on Syco

Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato want you to 'Bounce'

There really aren't any words.  It's like Joe Jonas watched Justin Timberlake on SNL and thought 'hey I can do that.'  But he can't :(

Still it's not 100% terrible.  Anything that skewers hipsters is fine by us.  And if the Jonas Brothers continue down this musical route we'd totally be on board with it.

It's Scopitone Saturday!!

Have you ever woken up on a Saturday morning and thought 'I wish I could see a bunch of scantily clad female dancers in faux-Mexican outfits and closeted gay men in ponchos dance to instrumental brass music?'  Us either, but that's what we get anyway.

Shakira, Lil' Wayne and Timbaland ask you to 'Give It Up To Me' - listen to the new single now

Ryan Seacrest debuted Shakira's new single from her forthcoming album a few minutes ago, and of course it's already found its way onto the interwebs.  It's significantly less Shakira-weird than 'She Wolf' and substantially more Timbaland-by-the-numbers.  A bit of a disappointment, but you can't blame her for trying to catch the lightning in a bottle success that was 'Hips Don't Lie' again.   A resounding 'meh' but we're still excited about the album.  We think.

Out soon on Epic in the US and RCA in the UK

Lolene does 'Sexy People' with her disco vagina (video)

We shall call it "vagisco."

Sexy People - Official Video

LOLENE | MySpace Music Videos

So there's another Lady Gaga knockoff then.  Which is a bit surprising, considering Lolene is the songwriter behind a load of Backstreet Boys tunes and works with all the "big producers" of today.  Maybe the rest of her album will be a little more progressive, but for now color us unconvinced.

"Sexy People" is currently unreleased but sits in the top 40 of the dance chart.  The album and first official single will be out later this year on Capitol/EMI.

Brand New Kylie: 'Better Than Today' (video)

So ScopiSat can't say enough about how great Kylie's NYC show was, but one of the highlights was deffo this track from her upcoming album.  By the time the second note plays you can tell it was penned by the Scissor Sisters, but there are worse things in the world we suppose.  K-Mo's been working with quite a few artists known for their solid songwriting skills (rather than the slew of hot producers she tapped for 'X')  so this album is looking up.  What do you guys think?

Tuesday, October 13, 2009

Leighton Meester's debut tune is not terrible (video)

Here is Ms. Meester (not a great moniker is it) and Robin Thicke speak-singing a Blondie rip-off and it is actually amazing.  Color us surprised.

"Somebody To Love" is out to radio now and will be available digitally later this month on Universal Republic

Calvin Harris has a 'Flashback' (video)

Because the 90's ended too soon.

Will Young's 'Hopes and Fears' are amazing (video)

Ever wanted to watch Will Young get knocked up?  Well here's your chance.  And you can hear a very very good song at the same time.  After his artistically triumphant and commercially abysmal last album, 'Hopes and Fears' is a return to form for Young.

Out Nov 9, with a greatest hits collection on the 16th

Pink says 'I Don't Believe You' - watch the video now

With the 5th single milked from her 'Funhouse' album, Pink picked a great one we have to say.  It's one of the better and beautifully understated performances from her, and to prove it here is a dodgy camcorder rip of the video:

Out Nov 2 in the UK

Listen to the new and very not terrible Cheryl Cole album (clips)

Please note that '3 Words' is PROPERLY INCREDIBLE while 'Rain On Me' sounds like a Pussycat Dolls castoff.  That kind of sums up the whole thing... But luckily half literally amazing and half meh comes out to a final tally of AMAZING.

Lady Gaga reveals "Fame Monster" artwork and it is GaGorgeous

Lady Gaga has revealed the artwork for her re-boot of 'The Fame' album, which will include EIGHT new songs (amazing).  It's iconic.  It's quirky.  It's...well, it's Gaga.

Sugababes' 'About A Girl' video - Same great taste, now with Jade (video)

An incomprehensible but AMAZING video for the best song Sugababes have chucked out in about 3 albums.  In it, the girls drive a car, wear very little, and then do some dodgy stage fighting with men in leather jackets.  In other words it is incredible.

Out Nov 9

Shakira loves all the 'Men In Town' in new leaked track

Shakira continues down the electro road with this leaked track, presumably from her upcoming album, and it makes us quite hopeful that the project is going to be very very good.  We're loving the talky bits too.  You can always count on Shakira to mess with a formula just enough to make it her own but keep most the good bits and she hasn't let us down.

Out Oct 12 in the UK and Europe, and out in November in the US, both on Epic

Barbra kicks the pants off Mariah and Madonna on the US album charts

Diva War '09 has come to a close, and I think we'll all agree the result is somewhat unexpected.   A 67 year old just beat Mariah to the Billboard 200 pole position by quite a few copies, and beat Madonna by a few hundred cargo ships full.  Not only that, but Mariah got beat by emo band Paramore.  Last go-round Ms. Carey bowed with about 400k in her first week, but she's clearly off her game, only managing to pawn off 168k.  Madonna, meanwhile, is way down at 7, which isn't tragic for a greatest hits package, most of which has been released in greatest hits form already.  So that's done and dusted then.

We all get to meet J.Lo's new alter ego 'Lola' in her new song w/Pitbull (video)

Instead of embracing the wave of pop that is taking over music at the moment and returning to the genre that gave us her best tunes, J.Lo is going all urban with her new 'jam.'  We really can't be bothered to write any more as the whole thing is a wad of crap.

Terrorizing a radio near you very soon

Ultra Nate and something called DJ King Tutt say 'Faster, Faster Pussycat'

2 people have made noises with each other and then vomited a mass of digital effects sprinkled with tragic dancing onto a bargain-bin film reel.  And now we must watch it.

It is out now.  I tell you that so you are armed with the knowledge to make an educated decision regarding how best to avoid the song, and so that you are given the opportunity to 'make peace' in case your efforts to avoid the song fail.

Tuesday, October 6, 2009

Taio Cruz and Ke$ha send a 'Dirty Picture' (clip)

Here is a song about sending pornographic images to a person using a mobile phone. It is a rave-up vocorder 'anthem' and sounds a lot like it is going to be very good but we will reserve judgment until a higher quality clip comes out.

You'll notice that people from Radio 1 speak over the top.  Do not be alarmed.  This is not a part of the song.   As the voices explain, they are speaking over the top so that the song does not get ripped and end up on a blog or something.  Mission accomplished, guys.

Leona's new album cover is quite nice, yes? (pic)

Yes.

EDIT:  lets have a look at how this is all panning out in the real world:

Watch Carrie Underwood's 'Cowboy Casanova' video

Equal parts Eyes Wide Shut and small-town hick bar, Carrie's new video is pretty ok by us.  What do you guys think?

Out now

Ladyhawke doesn't work any 'Magic' in new video - watch now

ScopiSat has a love-hate relationship with Ladyhawke, and it's impossible to predict how we will feel about her at any given time.  Right now, however, we have a legitimate reason for leaning a bit towards 'hate.'  Ladyhawke has paired a passable song with an abysmal series of moving images to create what ends up being a load of old shit.

The single came out on September 28, not that anyone cared.  It was her sixth single taken from an album containing exactly twelve songs.  Just think about that for a moment.

Chart Chat UK: October 4, 2009

This week is boring.  Taio Cruz holds tight at the top, Shakira stays put at 4, and the only real movement is at the bottom of the top ten.  Temper Trap hops into the number 7 position, with their slow-burning single 'Sweet Disposition.'  Pitbull grabs another hit, as 'Hotel Room Service' gets delivered at 9, and Dizzee Rascal's 'Dirtee Cash' rings up at 10.  Down at 14, Madonna continues her slide down the hooker pole with her latest, as all the focus has been pushed to the decent selling album.  La Roux, while flopping at 27 with the full release of 'I'm Not Your Toy,' doesn't take the honors of the biggest failure of the week.  That title goes to Natalie Imbruglia, whose electro-Coldplay comeback doesn't even make the top 40 despite the song being LITERALLY AMAZING.  Radio just didn't support this one at all.  Shame, programmers.  Shame.

The UK Top Ten:
1 - Taio Cruz: Break Your Heart
2 - Jay-Z ft Alicia Keyes: Empire State of Mind
3 - David Guetta Ft Akon: Sexy Chick
4 - Shakira: She Wolf
5 - Black Eyed Peas: I Gotta Feeling
6 - Jay-Z ft Rihanna & Kanye West
7 - Temper Trap: Sweet Disposition
8 - Pixie Lott: Boys & Girls
9 - Pitbull: Hotel Room Service
10-Dizzee Rascal: Dirtee Cash

Leona Lewis chucks out another song that sounds exactly like all the other songs she's chucked out

Just because it's brilliant doesn't mean we won't revolt if you keep giving us the same exact song over and over again.  Man up and put a donk on it.

Madonna meets Gaga on SNL (video)

It was bound to happen.  Everyone knew it would.  With all the praise-heaping and ego stroking these two have done lately, they were destined to meet in a spectacular fashion, and what better way than in a dodgy SNL skit with bad lines and wooden acting?

Things you find when having an online video post-off

We were having an online 90's video posting war with a friend of ours, because that's what gets us by on those lonely Saturday nights, and we found this.  It is one of the most amazing things that has ever happened in the history of everything.  Fact.

It's Scopitone Saturday!!

This week's Scopitone features a man flailing about in a tragic Elvis impersonation.  It was 1960 so Elvis mania was in full swing.  We can't help but wonder if, 50 years from now, we will look back and all the Lady Gaga wannabe/ripoffs will look this stupid and desperate?

*BRAND NEW* LADY GAGA SINGLE (video)

It's what every gay and hanger-on has been waiting for ever since the reissue of Lady Gaga's 'The Fame' was announced.  It is unfortunately par for the course for Miss Gaga, but fortunately par for the course for Miss Gaga is quite good.

Not bad, except for when there is a man talking over it for no reason

The song you will be humming until you off yourself just to 'make the music stop'

This would be filed under 'song of the summer' except it is no longer summer and Miley already ran off with that label months ago.  So instead, here is a video of a song that is Eurotrash, annoying, and pretty much already came out in the form of that 'Numa Numa' song, but that you also will be singing to yourself for the next week.  It is called 'Mm-Ma-Ma' because those are words now apparently.

We have nothing else to say so we will now cut and paste part of the 'Music Video Plot' Wikipedia entry:

"A fashion show is happening but the audience is very bored. Backstage, the fashion director is helping one of the women in the show with her outfit. They both smell something, and Crazy Loop comes in wearing a pizza delivery outfit, delivering a pizza. The woman tries to get a taste, but the fashion director forbids her and tries the pizza himself. However, the director dislikes it and spits it in the trash."

Amazing.

Out October 12 on PopLife.

Agnes' 'Release Me' USA video

...because the original was too 'Euro.'  Which apparently means there wasn't enough dancing in a warehouse, Tyra hair-tossing, or over-emoting.  Problem solved.

Still a great jam though...and we're liking the subtle remix.
US release:  Radio in October, CD this autumn, download available NOW

Mika's new single 'Rain' - listen now!

One of the better tracks on his new album, 'Rain' is all Scissor Sisters-meets-Erasure.  So pretty gay then.  In any case it's his next single in the UK.

Not bad, Mika.  But it's not going to win over the Mika haters now is it...
