Let's all watch Florence (and her Machine) sing her new single on X Factor UK

I am a triangle with a head.

So last night Florence Welch, of Florence And The Machine, had what people generally call a VERY GOOD EVENING.  First came word that her new album 'Ceremonials' had mounted the summit of the UK album charts, like a hooker mounting a (Ed.: STOP IT RIGHT NOW) and then the ginger genius took the stage to perform her single 'Shake It Out' on the biggest show in the British Isles.  

In typically understated fashion (sarcasm!) Flo-Wo begins all demure and quiet, and then the camera pans out and a huge dress train carried by her minions starts flapping about while a church choir sings, because OF COURSE.  

Really the best part of the whole thing is Florence, though, and her undeniable vocal prowess.  None of her songs are particularly easy to sing, but she consistently pulls them off with a flair that most pop strumpets would kill for.  Sure, she doesn't dance around, and she's not going to glitter bomb the audience or nip-slip her way into a tabloid, but as grown-up, down-to-earth female chart acts go, she's certainly one of the best. 

Though, if we're entirely honest, if one of these days Flo wants to strip down and vogue a bit to a discowhistle donkfest, we would not object in the least.  But until then, here's 'Shake It Out':

Florence did not react well when shown a mirror.

So Steve Jobs died last night and we're kind of really sad about it.  He was awesome, visionary, groundbreaking, and also TOTALLY A HOT PIECE OF ASS back in the day. 

Oh, the things he could do to us with that apple...

 But the thing we appreciate Jobs most for is his uncanny sense of how to make things do exactly what they needed to but also look elegant and classy.

Which is why we're talking about him in this post.  Not just because we were looking for ANY EXCUSE to laud the man, but also because the new Florence + The Machine video is a great example of something that does just what we want it to, but is classy as f*ck as well.

FloMo has always had a bit of bite to her, and a sort of wildness, like she was raised in the woods and didn't even see an indoor toilet until a few months ago.  But she also has a polish and sheen to her, which in the age of Ke$ha is an accomplishment in itself.

Flo's two sides shine through on almost every one of her songs.  New track, 'Shake It Out,' is the one that will officially launch the new Florence LP, and, as per usual, encapsulates both faces of Miss F.  It's certainly got an edge, but also has a soft underbelly.  The video, for its part, is gorgeous in its own way.  It's beautiful, classy, and streamlined, but also sexy and carnal at the same time, what with its masked orgies and all.

It's pretty much a home-run of style and substance, but whether it will sell like her past tracks is yet to be seen.  The song is knocking around the lower reaches of the UK top 20 at the moment, but we have a feeling no one will really care as long as the album sells bucketloads.  And it will.

For the moment though, before all the chart positions come rolling in, we can all sit back and enjoy a great tune by a great pop star in a great video.  It's shiny, pretty, sexy and tantalizingly restrained. 

And it'll look great on our iPad.

I have just squashed a very gay bug

Oh, Florence. 

It's quite a good time to be a ginger, isn't it?  Nicola is gearing up to lord over the pop landscape, Flo-Mo is holding down the indie side of things, and last we saw, Rihanna still refused to rinse the neon Kool-Aid out of her hair. 

Obviously (read: not at all obvious and, in fact, quite unlikely) seizing on this GINGER REVOLUTION, Miss Machine has opted to release a brand new song.  It continues the Flo's tradition of chucking out tunes that are quite good, though some of that can be put down to the fact that it was first done by a bona fide pop icon by the name of Buddy Holly who was so awesome that Weezer did a song about him.

The whole thing is in aid of this Buddy Holly covers album thing that is happening, so unfortunately this doesn't signal an impending new Florence album, but we'll take what we can get as gingers are notoriously thrifty with their musical output.

Seriously, when was the last time Ginger Spice put out a song?

Aw, poor Ginger Spice.

Florence and the Machine are 'Hurricane Drunk' in new video - watch now!

Florence is a machine, chucking out tracks off the album 'Lungs' (see what we did there...), and for the sixth single we get 'Hurricane Drunk.' 

We'd say something about how unnecessary a sixth single is, but clearly the label is doing something right.  Just a couple weeks ago, 'Lungs' hit number 1 on the album chart after a bazillion weeks in release.  In any case, here's another ginger dancing around in strange outfits:

Florence + the Machine do a Drumming Song

Here is the new and very good video for 'Drumming Song,' by an act that has been all over 'the blogs' for some time now, and more recently has been all over the top of the album charts in the UK. In the video there is dancing, a church, and dancing in a church. It's all a bit "'Eyes Wide Shut' with gold hotpants", but it works out quite well. Good job to everyone, champagne all around.




Out on Island Records on September 13. The album, 'Lungs' is out in the US and UK digitally now, with a physical release in the US on October 20.
